Sarah's Legacy

A Quiet Goodbye, From My Heart to Yours

Hello, I'm Sarah, and I'm so glad you found your way here. This little page is where I'd like to slow down for a moment and share a few words with you, as I get ready to set down my tools and close my workshop for good.

Where It All Began

I made my very first pair of sandals on an old workbench in the corner of my grandfather's garage, using good full-grain leather and stitching every seam slowly by hand, the way I'd learned during a summer in Florence. Those early pairs were made to last, and I still imagine some of them out there today, scuffed, softened, and well loved.

Over the years, I've had the quiet joy of hearing from the women who wore them, where their sandals had been, the weddings, the long trips, the ordinary days that somehow mattered most. Every pair carried a little piece of someone's life. It has been the honor of mine.

But lately I've felt time in my hands. The work that once came so easily now asks more of me, and I've come to know these are my final seasons at the bench. The kindest thing I can do is close this chapter gently, while I still have the strength to say a proper goodbye.

Chosen Slowly, With Care

I've spent so many years with leather in my hands that I can tell, almost by touch, whether a piece is worth working with. I've never been in a hurry to use just anything. The right material has a quietness to it, a feel you come to know, and I've always waited for that before I begin.

I work with full-grain leather, the kind that keeps its natural marks and softens gently over time. I like that it isn't perfect. It carries a little character, the way we all do, and it grows more beautiful the longer it's worn. A pair made this way isn't meant to be replaced. It's meant to stay with you, quietly, for years.

I've never wanted to make a great many sandals. I've only ever wanted to make good ones. So I take my time, I choose carefully, and I let each pair become what it's meant to be. That slowness has been my way for as long as I can remember, and it still feels right to me.

What I Hope to Leave Behind

People sometimes ask why I never changed my ways, never made things faster or made more of them. The truth is, I never wanted to. For me, this was never just about selling sandals. It was about doing the work well, and leaving behind something a little more than shoes.

So in these last months, you'll find my final pairs made the same way they always have been, slowly, by hand, from good leather. It's my simple way of saying that some things are still worth doing the careful way, even when everyone else is in a hurry.

How I Work

  • One Pair at a Time. I never rush or mass-produce. Each pair is made slowly, start to finish, before I begin the next.
  • Made to Last. I use real, full-grain leather and hand-stitch every pair so it softens, molds to your feet, and stays with you for years.
  • By My Own Hands. No machines, no factory, no shortcuts. Every cut and every stitch is mine, the way I've done it for 40 years.

Closing the Workshop

I've decided it's time to step away from my workbench, and I find myself feeling more thankful than sad about it. It's a quiet kind of goodbye. What I'll miss are the small, everyday things, the smell of the leather, the slow rhythm of stitching, the little moment of satisfaction when a pair is done and I set it aside.

Mostly, though, I'll think of you. You let me spend my years doing work I genuinely loved, and that's no small thing. I'm closing this chapter gently, with a calm heart and a great deal of gratitude for the time I had.

Thank You

Before I go, I just want to say thank you. To everyone who ever bought a pair, recommended me to a friend, or simply found their way to my little shop, you gave me a wonderful life's work, and I'll never forget it. If one of these last pairs ends up being yours, wear it well. Let it remind you that some things are still made slowly, with care, by someone who meant it.

Warmly,
Sarah
